Obama Ad Makes Fun That McCain Can’t E-mail..Will He Follow Up With McCain’s severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes?

By: Pam On: Sep/12/08 -

Via Jonah: From the AP story about the computer illiterate ad:

“Our economy wouldn’t survive without the Internet, and cyber-security continues to represent one our most serious national security threats,” [Obama spokesman Dan] Pfeiffer said. “It’s extraordinary that someone who wants to be our president and our commander in chief doesn’t know how to send an e-mail.”

300 advisers and not one could google this from 2000?

McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain’s severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain’s encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He’s an avid fan - Ted Williams is his hero - but he can’t raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball.

After Vietnam, McCain had Ann Lawrence, a physical therapist, help him regain flexibility in his leg, which had been frozen in an extended position by a shattered knee. It was the only way he could hope to resume his career as a Navy flier, but Lawrence said the treatment, taken twice a week for six months, was excruciatingly painful.

“He endured it, he wouldn’t settle for less,” said Lawrence, who rejoiced with McCain when he passed the Navy physical. “I have never seen such toughness and resolve.”

Ed:

Making fun of a war hero’s severe injuries ” smooth move, Team O.  Talk about computer illiteracy!  Doesn’t anyone on the Obama campaign know what they’re doing?  Didn’t it ever occur to them that a man who can’t raise his arms above his head might have a physical barrier to using a computer?

If this is what happens when they takes the gloves off, maybe they should just keep them on in the future.

Ace:

McCain also can’t play basketball very well, Obama. How ’bout you challenge him to a game of one-on-one, too?

This is important:

What you are now seeing is Obama’s performance in a crisis challenging situation.

Are you reassured? Are you looking forward to the cool judgment and steady wisdom of President Barack Obama in a true crisis?

Allahpundit:

I’m not sure how he’s accessing the ‘Net given his injuries, but he does appear to have some kind of access. From an NYT interview in July:

Q: What websites if any do you look at regularly?

Mr. McCain: Brooke and Mark show me Drudge, obviously, everybody watches, for better or for worse, Drudge. Sometimes I look at Politico. Sometimes RealPolitics, sometimes.

(Mrs. McCain and Ms. Buchanan both interject: “Meagan’s blog!”)

Mr. McCain: Excuse me, Meagan’s blog. And we also look at the blogs from Michael and from you that may not be in the newspaper, that are just part of your blog.

Q: But do you go on line for yourself?

Mr. McCain: They go on for me. I am learning to get online myself, and I will have that down fairly soon, getting on myself. I don’t expect to be a great communicator, I don’t expect to set up my own blog, but I am becoming computer literate to the point where I can get the information that I need – including going to my daughter’s blog first, before anything else.

Check out this July CBS piece that never mentions his injuries

Michelle:

Allah asks: “If Internet savvy is a basic qualification for leadership in the modern age, how can it be that Billy Jeff ” still a major figure in the Democratic Party and the head of an influential global charity ” sent exactly two e-mails as president and remains offline to this day?”

A commenter at the liberal TNR blog is shaking his/her head: “I just don’t get the thinking behind it at all. Don’t they realize that there are 83 million Americans in the non-line community? And most of those are probably in downscale households they NEED to turn out? They’re insulting these people! Gratuitously!”

The Obama campaign does have a way of doing that:

This is so disgusting, infuriating and surprising. The Obama campaign has no one to blame but themselves for this one.

Still, lets look forward to better times. Settle in, ladies and gentlemen, and be sure to grab some popcorn and a drink of your choice. The backlash to this will be highly entertaining.

so what if mccain doesn’t know how to e-mail? if he wins as president, i am sure he will have assistants to filter information from the internet and open, print and send emails for him… EMAIL IS NOT AN ISSUE, BARACK. TELL YOUR GENIUS PEOPLE THAT.

by the way, i know that the obama campaign was referring to ‘times are different, things have changed, america needs a new kind of leader’. i got the message, but really, the presentation was just disgusting. and that turned me off to your message. hitting low is old tactics. not really fitting for a ‘new kind of leader’….

A friend and fellow Vietnam Veteran once told me, “For those who have not seen, no explanation is possible. For those who have seen, no explanation is necessary”. For many things in life this is true. We all have our story to share. It’s whether we choose to share it or not that counts.

McCain story is a study in courage, this was well highlighted at the convention by Fred Thomson.

The Obama campaign is just the dust on the Admiral’s shoes. They can’t hurt him they won’t influence our vote but will make more of us want to defeat the Party of Defeat, the democrats who hate this country and what all the veterans stand for.

It’s a Republican perpetuated lie. View pictures here:

If he can use a blackberry, he can type an email (he can even do it on his blackberry).

I’m not a fan of tv adds that attack the opponent, and as such I think both candidates should refrain from making such adds. The reality however is that in current US politics you need to use such tools to win, and if you’re going to do it I would hope you at least make your attacks on actual shortcomings in your opponents policies/qualifications.

The question is then is this about McCains qualifications or his personality ? And I guess the answer is a bit of both. What suit he used to wear obviously has nothing to do with how well he will do as a president, but his knowledge of technology could be relevant since he will no doubt come across bills relating to internet legislation/survailance, or briefs on counter-terrorism activities on the web, and in such cases he will need some knowledge on the subject in order to be able to make the correct decisions.

Furthermore, check these clash videos I found yesterday about the US Presidential candidates have talked taxes. Well, it’s entitled Obama v. McCain on Taxes. Watch these statements - then vote in http://clashorama.com/index.php?id=194
