I heard a radio interview last night of Obama by the ESPN sports radio guys. Obama says he is a huge sports fan, sports is central to his life. He's a White Sox fan.

Then he couldn't even string 2 sentences together, talking about sports and his team without saying uh, um, you know, uh, ummm. It was sad, it was pathetic! Truly, take away the teleprompter and the prepared speech, and Obama makes Bush look good!

You know what's so sad about all this? We hear so many people who say they're going to vote for Obama and the main reason they give is he's so articulate, so charismatic!

Clue to the ignorant: He isn't...:o)

I see both candidates as deeply flawed.

Now regarding the WOT, we had to do something. decades of virtual neglect had emboldened the terrorists to the point they thought the US had weakened to the point it could not respond effectively. Hence 9/11. We could not let that go unanswered at the next level.

Many mistakes were made managing the WOT, some probably still are. We have never prosecuted that type of warfare before on that scale, and so we had to learn how to. plus the enemy does not stay static; they change their tactics and strategy as well. Political mistakes were and are being made. Bush has never been effective at communicating with the American people.

I'm not very comfortable with the Patriot Acts or other measures that infringe on our Liberty. I don't want to trade Liberty for security. My answer is to go after the terrorists and root them out wherever they are and kill them. Domestically we need to control our borders and aggressively deport people who don't belong here. It makes no sense whatsoever to have Patriot Acts and all these security measures then leave the back door wide open.

Then you have the vermin like Ted Kennedy, Turban Durbin, Jack Murtha and others who did their best to undermine American will at home and especially damage our image in the eyes of the world. None of that helped.

Robert, I feel like you probably agree with a lot of Republican voters, voters who became republican because they opposed big government, etc. Why haven't you guys pushed through a paleo-conservative who actually supports individual rights?

I think that the war on terror has been the worst thing for the republicans. It's been an excuse to curtail individual rights, grow the government, run up a huge deficit, etc.

I'm reminded of something that the recently-deceased author David Foster Wallace wrote (edited down for length):

"[W]hat if we chose to accept the fact that every few years, despite all reasonable precautions, some hundreds or thousands of us may die in the sort of ghastly terrorist attack that a democratic republic cannot 100-percent protect itself from without subverting the very principles that make it worth protecting?

"Is this thought experiment monstrous? Would it be monstrous to refer to the 40,000-plus domestic highway deaths we accept each year because the mobility and autonomy of the car are evidently worth that high price? Is monstrousness why no serious public figure now will speak of the delusory trade-off of liberty for safety that Ben Franklin warned about more than 200 years ago? What exactly has changed between Franklin's time and ours?

"In the absence of such a conversation, can we trust our elected leaders to value and protect the American idea as they act to secure the homeland? What are the effects on the American idea of Guantánamo, Abu Ghraib, Patriot Acts I and II, warrantless surveillance, Executive Order 13233, corporate contractors performing military functions, the Military Commissions Act, NSPD 51, etc., etc.? Assume for a moment that some of these measures really have helped make our persons and property safer"are they worth it? Where and when was the public debate on whether they're worth it? Was there no such debate because we're not capable of having or demanding one? Why not? Have we actually become so selfish and scared that we don't even want to consider whether some things trump safety? What kind of future does that augur?"

The republican party, ruled by fear, has traded freedom for safety. McCain is a symptom of this trade. You're stuck with him.

I do not support amnesty at all. I say enforce the law first, control the border, and turn off the magnet. Then and only then should we discuss a guest worker program.I've said before McCain gives me only about ~30% of what I am looking for. I wish there was a viable 3rd party. I never supported or trusted Huckleberry.

I am also registered Independent. I have no illusions about where the Republican party has gone; Bush despite his firmness in the WOT has almost singlehandedly destroyed the Republican party.

But the Democrat Party imo has gone so far Left it is a danger to America. That plus the extreme hack partisanship of mentally-ill Pelosi means I could never, ever support it in its present form.

You must love amnesty too, Robert, since you're supporting McCain. We can elect him together!!! I'm so happy that no right-wing candidates are running for president this time. Imagine if a wacko like Huckabee had gotten on the ticket.....

Actually, it looks like we migh have encountered a snag getting McCain elected, since the Republican party will now have more trouble disenfranchising black voters. Oops. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gmJpgsrR27lwSUQ24_WSSrU0W-JwD93H4NF80

Oh well, we're all moving left regardless!!!

SFL those poll results are not the resounding endorsement you promote them as.

How do I feel about Global Warming? Not too important. First of all, if it is even currently occurring (and the reduced sunspot activity is looking like we are entering into a cooling cycle) there isn't much or anything we can do about it because it is not caused or substantially enhanced by human activity, such as the release of plant food (CO2) into the earth's atmosphere.

"How's that Church of Global Warming coming along? You, SFL, and Al Gore are among the few left..."

---------------

Hello Robert.

You just can't make up your own "facts" and expect people to believe them.

Here's a link with recent polls on the environment...
http://www.pollingreport.com/enviro.htm

...and yes, Global Warming is still a major concern with a majority of Americans.

Sooo...that "Church" of ours? Yeah, it's doing just fine, thank you.

"How important is the issue of global warming to you personally: extremely important, very important, somewhat important, not too important, or not at all important?"

Where do YOU fall in with the results of this question, Robert? Hmmm?
