Who is Vera Baker?

Some people in Chicago claim she was Obama’s Finance Director for his 2004 Senate campaign. FEC Senate campaign records show she was paid a pretty penny as “Finance Director”.

However, people familiar with Obama’s 2004 Senate campaign say Claire Serdiuk was Obama’s Finance Director. Looking through everything we can see online for that 2004 campaign, Claire Serdiuk is consistently listed as the Finance Director – because that’s what she was.

There’s no mention of Vera Baker:but Vera Baker was paid as the “Finance Director” too.

And then, suddenly, Vera Baker was relocated to New York.

Right around the time Michelle Obama got incredibly angry about something. We know it was hard to tell, because Michelle’s angry about something on a good day:but this was EXTRA angry.

And then, even more suddenly, Vera Baker was relocated to the island of Martinique, where she remains.

We hear it’s lovely there. They get lots of sunshine on Sundays. Paradise. A lovely place to read between the lines and ask lots of questions. All reporters should go there and feel inspired.

Does anyone else get the impression the media doesn’t want to report on people like Vera Baker until after the election ” and that both the Clinton and McCain campaigns have been unable to force them to do otherwise? Do you ever get the feeling reporters sit around, perhaps on top of piles of stories they choose not to report, asking each other, “You don’t really want McCain to win, do you?”.

Of course they don’t.

The piles make better chairs than stories. “We’re all so comfy!”

That’s why you’ve never heard of Vera Baker:and most likely won’t in the next three weeks.

We decided to have a little fun Saturday night by posting this item on an alleged girlfriend of Barack Obama being exiled to the Caribbean by the gracious and charming Michelle Obama.

Well, it sure sounds as if there’s a whole lot more than we thought originally.

I put that link up as mostly just a bit of baiting of Andrew Sullivan. I didn’t expect much to come from it.

Having now spoken to someone tracking the story, I can say:

1) It’s not just a silly little rumor.

2) It will break in some form shortly. The question is how prestigious an outlet breaks it. (PS, at best, it won’t be that prestigious, at least at first, but there’s a lot here so when someone finally touches, there is a good chance of an Edwards-like “Oh yeah, we were working on that too” pile-on.) Fire is being held as those who know the story try to get someone of import to break it; if they pass, it will be flooded out through secondary channels.

3) The story has a Fred Baron. Not The Fred Baron. But actually– an even better Fred Baron. The woman is “working” in the Caribbean drawing a salary from…. uhhh… let’s say from someone who is a big, shiny part of the dirty Chicago political machine. And it makes no sense that she’s doing her supposed “job,” for which she seems unqualified anyway, in the Caribbean, of all places. It’s unclear how she could possibly do this job at all, never mind from the Caribbean. And she’s been there for at least a year. (At least.) This isn’t some sabbatical or few months’ of “work” on an island paradise.

4) This woman was a major, big-time fundraiser. She raised x millions of dollars for various Democratic interests (connected to Obama) and then opened her own shop in DC. Since she was (as any fundraiser does) getting a cut of the take, this was a lucrative job. But she, for reasons unfathomable, suddenly shut the shop down and decamped to a little Caribbean island. And somewhere along the line got a “job” from her own Fred Baron. Which conveniently put her far away from Obama, Michelle, and the media.

5) Within hours of the Daily Mail article breaking, she called the Illinois hq of the Obama campaign. They wouldn’t talk to her.

Hmm. How long until we hear about smears?

    Fictitious Donors Found in Obama Finance Records

    10 Oct 2008 // Last December, someone using the name “Test Person,”from “Some Place, UT,”made a series of contributions, the largest being $764, to Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign totaling $2,410.07.

    Someone identifying himself as “Jockim Alberton,”from 1581 Leroy Avenue in Wilmington, Del., began giving to Mr. Obama last November, contributing $10 and $25 at a time for a total of $445 through the end of February.

    The only problem? There is no Leroy Avenue in Wilmington. And Jockim Alberton, who listed his employer and occupation as “Fdsa Fdsa,”does not show up in a search of public records.

    An analysis of campaign finance records by The New York Times this week found nearly 3,000 donations to Mr. Obama, the Democratic nominee, from more than a dozen people with apparently fictitious donor information. The contributions represent a tiny fraction of the record $450 million Mr. Obama has raised. But the questionable donations ” some donors were listed simply with gibberish for their names ” raise concerns about whether the Obama campaign is adequately vetting its unprecedented flood of donors.

    It is unclear why someone making a political donation would want to enter a false name. Some perhaps did it for privacy reasons. Another, more ominous possibility, of course, is fraud, perhaps in order to donate beyond the maximum limits.

    African American professionals can build prosperous careers in the capital city, especially those hoping to play a role in national politics. “There’s a mentality here that there’s enough for everyone; you’re not competing for what feels like a limited number of opportunities,” says 29-year-old Muthoni Wambu.

    Like most Washingtonians, Wambu is a transplant. She left New York City’s Upper West Side to study journalism at Howard University and then networked her way into a political fundraising job with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

    This was a new aspect of politics for Wambu, who soon discovered that it “brought together my strengths in a way that I’d never anticipated.”

    In 2000, Wambu and Vera Baker, another Howard alum, started Baker-Wambu & Associates.

    The firm has raised over $3 million for the campaigns of members of Congress and other politicians.

    These are all viable questions that need to be answered. Rezko starts singing to Fitzgerald and Sunday the Cape Caribbean web site vanishes in to sunset as we started chatting about her on Free Republic with a lead from HillBuzz.

    There are questions to be asked and answered. Why did here web site disappear yesterday when the posters of Free republic outted her web site and the possibility of her being tied to a credit card money factory for Obama in Martinique.

    Was she Barack’s love interest or just a Fundraiser bundler of soft money? She has ties and history raising funds for Barack and for the Congressional Black Caucus.

    Why did the DNC allow the campaign to move from DNC HQ in DC to Chicago where David Axlerod and his minions could hide and control the dirty games that possibly have taken place with illegal contributions for across the world like the $35,000 from the Edwan Brothers in Ga. No that’s not Georgia but Gaza Strip in the Middle East. But we all know that Barack is a friend of Israel and that the Brother’s got carried away in the moment of donating $35,000 to Obama.

    I hope that somebody has the sense to check bank accounts, credit card records and transaction prior to the election as this really reeks of money laundering. The FEC and other Government agencies need to make this a top issue before the election.

    Did some of this Laundered money go to Acorn. Can an audit of Acorns sources of funds be tracked to domestic and foreign bank accounts? We already know that Obama’s Campaign gave acorn more then 800,000 for voter registration. Wanna bet its bigger dollars from offshore accounts?

    So yes this is a smoking gun! Does it involve Rezko ,Axlerod and Obama I bet it does. Does the Main Street Media pick it up! Probably not as we are just bloggers and speculators of what occurred and don’t have any power to do much about it unless we spread the word to our friends and fellow bloggers on the net. Please make your voices heard on the net.

    Maybe the recent news of Rezko visiting US Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald’s office, along with his lawyers is a good sign that something big might be happening and that Rezko is singing the tune.

    (In 2005, the Obamas paid $1.65 million for their home near the University of Chicago. The sellers wanted a parcel they owned next door to sell on the same day, and Rezko’s wife, Rita, was the buyer. At the request of the Obamas, Mrs. Rezko later sold them a three-metre strip of land to enlarge their lot. They paid $104,500.
    The deal took place while Rezko was under investigation and when details of the cozy relationship surfaced, Obama said it was a “bonehead” error to have asked for the additional land because it looked like he was getting a favor.

    “I regret it,” Obama said at the time. “I’m going to make sure that from this point on I don’t even come close to the line.” )

Governor Crist spoke with Carolyn about the predatory loan that has trapped her into a failed mortgage and the need for the state to address the foreclosure crisis. The Governor assured ACORN that he was examining the issue closely. ACORN is urging the state to pass legislation that would ban abusive practices in subprime loans such as prepayment penalties, no-doc loans, and kickbacks to brokers.
