As The Polls Close, Results Will Be Posted

Chew on this while we wait:

Geraghty’s transcribing the data from Fox News TV and there’s already good news: New voters are only 10 percent of the electorate, a point less than they were four years ago. The bad news? They’re breaking much more heavily for The One — two to one on average in the the swing states mentioned — than they did for Kerry, who beat Bush 53/46.

More good news: McCain leads by 11 among late deciders Virginia and by 19 among white men in Ohio. And remember, those numbers are deflated by the exit poll skew.

I’m keeping track of the states as they come in here (which currently has it at Obama 50/McCain 48).

Britt Hume earlier stated “I remember us sitting here 4 years ago…at this very hour – 4pm EST…and we were all positive we had a President Kerry based on exit polling data”

This is about the worst thing that could happen to America. There is no way he can be more than a 1 term president though. He will fuck up this country way too much and people, within a year, will figure that out.

McCain ran a bad campaign. He knew he had the media against him and still didn’t pull out the big guns. He should be ashamed as well.

You know, BonBon, as bad as Obama and the Democrites will be for America, I doubt many of those who voted for him will figure it out. If they had that ability, they wouldn’t have voted for Oabama in the first place.

A prediction I made weeks ago was that if Obama wins the MSAM will stop their incessant bashing and undermining of the POTUS. Just the absence of that will give the effective impression things are better. Then for everything that goes wrong, they’ll claim it is the Bush legacy; Obama and the Democrites are working hard, but they are having to overcome and undo the damage Bush did…and that takes time! They’ll be blaming Bush for as long as Democrite is in the WH and the Democrites have control of Congress.

I mean, look at the past 8 years. Look at how bad of a train wreck Bush and a republican congress created.
This election is as was the election 2 years ago a begging on our knees for the government to change the direction.
It just boggles my mind that you die hard wing nuts refuse to see it. But I find solace knowing you will go running back to your churches, hiding and cowering while the rest of us can help put the country back on track.

It is showing this country is moving away from racial characterization. It makes me proud to see Dr. King’s “dream” is finally being realized. Trailhead – Although Obama is not my guy, I’ll refrain from calling you names because we’re all entitled to our opinion, don’t you agree?

Do you have the ability to participate in decent debate and discussion without resorting to name calling? Keep it up and you’ll not be welcome as a guest here.

Personally – while Obama is not my guy and if he does end up winning this thing, I will be supremely disappointed, no doubt. Probably as disappointed as you were in 2000 and 2004.

What I can’t stand, however, is the idiotic vitriol and name calling that people like you resort to when faced with opinions you do not agree with.

Now, regarding your pride in seeing Dr. King’s dream being realized – - I think anyone with a patriotic sense to them, no matter where their political loyalties lie, absolutely has to be awed at that kind of progress. Considering that blacks weren’t even allowed to vote just a short time ago, in our history. I don’t think the historic victory of this election is lost on anyone, from either side of the political isle.

Perhaps the republican party has moved so far away from what mainstream america is, that they are lost themselves. Sorry, the ultra right wing evangelical christian male is NOT representative of this nation. They never did have any mandate to direct the moral direction and unfortunately the republicans misread that and relied too heavily on “the base.” Next time, when you guys considered anything even remotely Bush-like, think of this night. Think of 2006. Think of this major shift this night represented. And perhaps the, you can get some sensible representatives into office.

  23. Lisa
    November 4, 2008 - 10:54 PM on November 4th, 2008

Decisive is a better word, agreed. Obviously, the American voting public have spoken, leaving me clinging, ironically, to hope that it won’t be as bad as I suspect it will be. As a small business owner, I’m extremely concerned about my future tax rate hikes under an Obama administration, and hope that I won’t have to layoff employees and scale back spending in order to balance my budget and keep my business afloat.

I thought McCain’s concession speech was excellent and very gracious. It was everything that I liked about him as a candidate – - gracious and sincere with that underlying, undying love for his country. I think we (McCain voters) can thank President Bush, largely, for the outcome of this election (among several other factors).

I fear this country has elected a President they do not know. I can only hope that doesn’t turn around to bite us in the arse. I remain open minded, however and while I’m willing to give Obama the chance that any new President-elect deserves – I remain skeptical and worried.

Twice, I felt the same way you did. The first time, I vowed my support but was high suspect of Bush’s intentions. And twice I was correct about him. He divided this country. He played on peoples fears. He offered no hope. Worse yet, his party followed him blindly when they should have stood up to him and his neoconservative administration because they too were either afraid, or simply the same.

Barack Obama, unlike anyone else, if you cannot feel it, you never will, offers possibilities. He offeres it through humility. I trust his judgement in selecting people to help him lead this nation. Joe Biden, nobody can argue, is one of the foremost foreign policy experts in the world. He has hinted at Warren Buffet as Treasurary secretary. More so, he understands that it takes a team to lead successfully. This is why I believe in him.

And he did not mention that he has “political capital” to spend.

I think we canb all agree on whether we think Obama will succeed or not, we need to send our best energy to him, his family, the office of president and our leaders as a whole. We all have a hard road ahead of us and if we do not walk as one, we will fail as individuals. I ask, not as an independant leaning left, but as a fellow citizen to let the past go. Lets fix what is broken.

Oh yeah, I’ll be pleasantly surprised. Like when his jack booted thugs from his homeland security force kick in my door to confiscate my second amendment guaranteed property. Oh Wait, the US Constitution will be overwritten by his policies because it’s “Too limiting on what the Federal government can do” His words not mine. Or when his Cap and Trade energy policies cause my electric rates to “Necessarily Skyrocket”. His words, not mine. You idiots who voted for Obama have thoroughly screwed this country now. I hope you like living in a third world, because Obama, Pelosi and Reid have us lined up to be one. Of course it won’t effect them, but the rest of us are screwed.

Hey Lisa, like I told the people at work who were touting Obama, I hope have another job lined up, because this place is closing within a couple of months of Obama being inaugurated. Unemployment will top 10 percent by mid 2010, and 12 percent by the end of his first term.

  30. Lisa

FrmrArmyOfficer – When the election started to look like an Obama win earlier tonight, the news cameras started panning through the crowds in Chicago. My husband was watching it and he said “I hope they all go bankrupt and jobless..it will serve them right.”

Of course, he doesn’t hope that for anyone – - but I fear that many of Obama voters don’t see beyond the nose on their own face when it comes to his economic policies, taxes, energy rates “necessarily skyrocketing”, et al.

My own son voted for Obama and told me “Mom, I don’t know what you’re so worried about with Obama’s tax plan – - it should make you feel good to give some of your money to people who need it. I think wealth redistribution is a good thing… and I like the story of Robin Hood”

My response was to tell him ‘at the age of 19 when you barely make enough income to pay taxes in the first place, it’s easy for you to say that. You think because you don’t make a lot of money that his tax plan doesn’t affect you. But it does affect the people who you hope will employ you…so, it does affect you, especially when you can’t find/keep a job because everyone is scaling back…among other things”

He unfortunately is an overly optimistic kid who hasn’t experienced enough of life to form a cynical eye. If he really thinks that my ‘wealth’ will be ‘redistributed’ to people who truly need it – - then he has a long, long way to go.

He told me I was filled with fear when I should be filled with hope.

Hope don’t pay the bills, kid.

As for my husband? He’s not a citizen of the US. He is a citizen of the UK… actually, he has dual citizenship. He’s trying to figure out a way we can base my business outside the US, legally lol :)

Well Lisa, the track record of the GOP and supporters like you of being good predicters of the future of this nation is um, “not good” at best (to understate it). So I am not going to invest any debate into this re-spewing the rovian spin that Obama’s plan is going to bankrupt us all.
And I am just sitting back giggling over the whole thing because your little “lets move outsaide of the US now” comment validates what I have said about folks like you all along – raw hipocrites. Your patriotism only goes as far as and is applicable when it suits you. America only is a great nation when it is run by people who think alike.
But, today, I can say I will live to see the America that has been dreamed of since it was founded. So it is hard for me to harbor any ill will towards the closed minded hate mongers that have bloated and gloated for 8 years over the monkey they put into office. Hang on, Jan. 9th is right around the corner.

Your’re actually considering a move to the U.K. because you think Obama is too socialist? =))

Obama’s policies line up, more or less, with a Western European model (though Obama’s further to the right on healthcare and progressive taxation). If you want a more right-leaning home base, you could always try Singapore….

  35. Robert
    November 5, 2008 - 08:46 AM on November 5th, 2008

Isn’t that interesting how the Obama supporters are calling for everyone to close ranks and fall in line behind Obama? I’d bet most of them were screaming that Bush stole the election in 2000 and 2004 and asserting “He’s not MY President!” then proceeded to do everything they could to undermine, slander, obstruct, and destroy Bush. The Democrite leaders purposely pursued policies that damaged America, in every way imaginable, and engaged in activity that gave propaganda aid and comfort to our enemies just to diminish and destroy the Bush Presidency they refused to accept.

Now they all want to join hands and sing Kumbaya? Now they have apparently won: will anyone thoroughly investigate and invalidate fraudulent votes cast before the election is certified? No. Will Republicans send armies of lawyers into key states and delay the results by two months with endless claims of disenfranchisement, trotting out idiots who claimed they didn’t understand the ballots? No they won’t because they are not that down and dirty, evil as the Democrites are.

But until the massive Democrite fraud factor is investigated and subtracted from the results I will not accept that a majority of Americans voted for the Democrite choice. I’m not singing Kumbaya with you.

I’m going to hide my wallet and do everything I can to protect the Constitution. The only thing you should expect is to have Obama subjected to the same scrutiny, the same opposition, the same slander, the same undermining Bush got. I know that won’t happen, because the MSM won’t do it and Conservatives are too concerned about America and our future to willfully damage the Country for political gain, unlike the Democrites. But it’s all you Democrites have the right to expect.

Take a look at what rich Democrites are doing with their businesses and investments. That will perhaps reveal the loopholes built in to protect the assets of the loudmouth hypocrites. You know, those same Democrites who stand up and piously declare the rich should pay more, even as they know their fortunes are well protected by tax lawyers and accountants using every trick to do it.

From the comment about her husband being from the U.K. Looking over the post again, I see that it’s just a business move. Oh well…

Still, what Obama presents is basically a European model. I’ve lived in France and in England. Life is nice there. The health-care is better, the schools are better, the public transportation is awesome, etc. If this is what you guys are describing under the name of “socialism” … we should be so lucky.

The “election” of Obama does prove one thing: truly anyone can be President! All you need is to be backed by a billionaire, have the support of the MSM, and amass more than half a billion dollars to spend, some of it illegally donated and perhaps some coming from America’s enemies.

In the era when Journalism is dead and the MSM contributes a billion dollars more in free advertising/propaganda, that will do it! For just a little more money bin Laden could conceivably do it with MSM solidly behind him!

Did you have health care under the European model? The European schools are better because they teach academics and don’t have a teachers union to deal with. In Europe, schools compete for the students, and if the school doesn’t have what the parents are looking for, they go elsewhere. Here, we force kids to go to the local school. We don’t fire bad teachers. We have increased funding 100% + since 1971, yet our scores have gone down considerably..

I never said I wanted to move to the UK, I think you read what you wanted to read there. I always laughed at those types who said that they would ‘move out of the country’ if Bush was elected, etc. Fair-weathered patriotism is not my cup of tea. I love the US. I survived 8 years of Clinton – I can survive 4 of Obama. Whether or not my business can survive 4 years of Obama is a whole other story.

And Trailhead, it’s not that I am believing any ‘hype’ spread around by Karl Rove regarding Obama’s economic plan and his plan to tax the hell out of me. I’m just listening to Obama’s own words on that one.
