Pelosi: Prop 8 lost because some voters were too dumb to know what they were voting for

“Unfortunately, I think people thought they were making a statement about what their view of same-sex marriage was,” the San Francisco Democrat said. “I don’t know if it was clear that this meant that we are amending the Constitution to diminish freedom in our state.”

Really?  I am pretty sure that may of these same idiots also voted in 2000, by a 3-to-2 ratio, to ban gay marriage under Proposition 22.

Here is what the voters saw on Tuesday:

PROPOSITION
54 | Title and Summary
ELIMINATES RIGHT OF SAME-SEX COUPLES TO MARRY.
INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT
.
OFFICIAL TITLE AND SUMMARY PREPARED BY THE ATTORNEY GENERAL
ELIMINATES RIGHT OF SAME-SEX COUPLES TO MARRY. INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT.
Changes the California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California.
• Provides that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.

Summary of Legislative Analyst’s Estimate of Net State and Local Government Fiscal Impact:
• Over the next few years, potential revenue loss, mainly from sales taxes, totaling in the several tens of
millions of dollars, to state and local governments.
• In the long run, likely little fi scal impact on state and local governments.

Everyone see what she’s up to? I once served on a jury during a criminal trial and whenever a cop would testify, the judge would go out of his way to say that we shouldn’t let our respect for the law color our assessment of the credibility of his testimony. Simply judge him on the merits, we were told, just as we would anyone else. Pelosi’s saying the opposite. Never mind the merits; don’t you know that gay marriage is in the Constitution — as of, er, six months ago, per the decision of a narrowly divided court? Exit question for Madam Speaker: If Scalia and Thomas bring back freedom of contract, you’ll be super keen to block any amendments that would diminish freedom in our country by overturning the decision, right?

Jim Treacher twists it just a bit:

“Unfortunately, I think people thought they were making a statement about what their views of race relations and male beauty were,” the San Francisco Democrat said. “I don’t know if it was clear that this meant that we are picking the next President of the United States.”

JammieWearingFool points out the blatant hypocrisy of the gays anger and who it is that gets blamed:

Gay rights activist John Aravosis, whose well-trafficked AmericaBlog.com is urging the boycott, is unapologetic about targeting Utah rather than California, where voters defined marriage in the state Constitution as a heterosexual act.

Utah, Aravosis said, “is a hate state,” and on this issue, “at a fundamental level, the Utah Mormons crossed the line. . . . They just took marriage away from 20,000 couples and made their children bastards. You don’t do that and get away with it.”

Well, chances are that the kids were bastards before the ban was overturned in May only to be put back in place on Tuesday.  That, or there are alot of preemies that came into the world at a 5 month gestation period.  California voters are the ones that actually voted on the ban, but by all means, lets blame Utah.  Want to throw dollars and cents up to me?

The money raised

To oppose ban=  $38,432,873 of which $11,968,285 came from outside the state

  • Jon Stryker, a Kalamazoo, Mich., billionaire, gave $1 million.
  • The California Teachers Association $1.3 million
  • Ellen DeGeneres, director George Lucas and actor T.R. Knight gave $100,000 each.
  • The state Democratic Party gave $100,000, the service employees union $100,000.
  • Steven Bing has dropped $500,000 into the campaign
  • Cleveland philanthropist David Maltz has added $100,000 to the $1 million he has already given
  • James Hormel of San Francisco gave another $100,000
  • Apple Computer $100,000
  • Sergey Brin, president of Google, gave $100,000.

And that’s just to name a few..

To support ban= $36,122,538 of which $10,733,522 came from outside the state

One of the reasons Prop 8 succeeded was that the anti-8 movement stereotyped their opponents as out of state religious extremists.  This was never true but it fit in with both California liberals’ narcissism, about their own state, and their hatred of Red States.  Because of this false assumption, their advertising was all wrong and Prop 8 passed.

Since the election Liberals, like Pelosi and what I’ve seen from the Gay community, have refused to acknowledge their own mistakes (including two catastrophic incidents with school teachers pushing an agenda on kids right before the election) and instead focused on the usual “hate the outsider” or “people who vote against us are stupid” standbys.

I really think that people had their minds made up on the issue, prior to any ads being run.  This isn’t the first time that the voters cast a vote for this.  Both times, it was easily passed.  It’s not the nicest way to say it, but people don’t really care that much about gay issues. We live in an entertainment society, where People Magazine and Entertainment Tonight are considered news sources..is it any wonder that many people think that being gay is a choice?

It was definitely an unusual election.  I was pretty surprised about people voting to keep affirmative action in Colorado, too (especially after it had been voted down in WA and CA).

In addition to being seriously mentally ill, Pelosi is too dumb to be in Congress. Pelosi being in the position she is in is holding America back from economic improvement.
