The Unions Expect Payback For Getting Obama Elected

See what $450 Million will get you?

Labor’s No. 1 priority is a piece of legislation called the Employee Free Choice Act, also known as the card-check bill. The bill would give workers the right to join a union as soon as a majority of employees at a workplace signed cards saying they wanted one. Business groups have attacked the legislation because it would take away employers’ right to insist on holding a secret-ballot election to determine whether workers favored unionization.

Keep in mind, I told you that  Obama Promised The Teamsters That He Would End The Oversight And Allow The Mafia Back In .

Back to the article though:

“Our major priority in the short and long term,” said Andy Stern, president of the Service Employees International Union, “is to get the economy working for Americans who work.”

Andy might want to give United Auto Workers President Ron Gettelfinger a call,The UAW Wants Additional $25 Billion For Health Care Obligations.
That was just last week, but this is what I  reported to you back in November, 2006:Automakers Seek Federal Help, Yet Unions Not Mentioned?

Auto industry leaders plan to stress in a White House meeting that they are not seeking any federal bailout, but want support on health care and trade issues that affect large manufacturers. Keep in mind that both GM and Ford have manufacturing plants in China, and I as I pointed out, China and other overseas factories accounted for more than half of GM’s total output of 9.2 million vehicles last year. What the issue centers around is that the UAW members in this country don’t pay the weekly healthcare costs that other large companies charge their employees. In otherwords..we should pay for union members to have free insurance? I think not!

Warner Todd Huston :

Then the NYT piece gives space for union chief John L. Sweeney to claim that unions can stop the decline of the middle class. In fact, unions are one of the reasons jobs in the middle class are lost to international competition. International companies aren’t bowed down with the weight of oppressive and destructive union demands elsewhere and can easily undercut our markets.

  1. Uggg, as far as I can tell President Elect Obama will easily exceed Republican expectations and the Democrats will be fine in 2010. (You guys are basically setting the expectations so low that President Obama can’t fail even if he’s the moron you think he it)

You guys haven’t yet looked inward as to why the Republicans lost control of the Executive and Legislative branches.

The Republicans are screwed for a LONG time to come.

  2. Actually, Z, I said the same thing here about the results of the ’04 and ’06 elections, as far as people needing to take a long hard look at why they lost.
Off the top of my head:

Republicans got caught and smeared with scandals that only Democrats can get away with

McCain-Feingold CFR came back to bite McCain in the butt

McCain (for whom I had to hold my nose and vote) became an MSM media darling/useful idiot because he did things that undermined the Republican held Senate (Gang of 14) and Bush, whom the media hated for “stealing” the 2000 election. The media propped him up long enough to outlast the other primary contenders and secure the nomination, and turned on him.

Republicans began to spend money with careless abandon (they had earmarks as well).

McCain announces he’s pulling out of Michigan (I’m from MI so it’s a sore spot with me)

Who is the head of the RNC and why have we not heard of him/her/it? Obvious lack of leadership.

I could go on, but it’s clear to me there has been a lack of leadership and conservative drift in the GOP.

While I didn’t vote for him, I recognize the situation for what it is. Obama has four years to do something, and unlike a lot of people eight years ago, I’m willing to give him a chance to succeed/fail. And there are 535 other people who need to be held accountable for the way they’re voting.

  3. Well saints be praised.   Sasha?  You made sense (with the sole exception of voting for McCain).

    Are you biracial or black?

  4. Eben asks:  Are you biracial or black?

Yes … if you follow the one-drop rule.

  5. I’ve got you all beat. I am the greatest Affirmative Action candidate in the world. I’m running for President after Obama.
