On This Veterans Day

By: Pam On: Nov/11/08 - 7 Comments

“Today, our nation pays tribute to those veterans, 25 million veterans who have worn the uniform of the United States of America. Each of these men and women took an oath to defend America — and they upheld that oath with honor and decency. Through the generations, they have humbled dictators and liberated continents and set a standard of courage and idealism for the entire world….

….On Veterans Day, we also remember the troops who left America’s shores but did not live to be thanked as veterans. On this Veterans Day, we honor the courage of those who were lost in the current struggle. We think of the families who lost a loved one; we pray for their comfort. And we remember the men and women in uniform whose fate is still undetermined — our prisoners of war and those missing in action. America must never forget their courage. And we will not stop searching until we have accounted for every soldier and sailor and airman and Marines missing in the line of duty.”

Veteran’s Day, and Memorial Day (especially) are always bittersweet days for me. I thank, honor, and deeply appreciate Veterans for their service, especially combat veterans. But it makes me heartsick to think of all the blood that has been shed to make this Country great and free, yet so many of the American people are willing to piss all that away for little or nothing more than the promises of something for nothing from politicians.

This is especially appropriate and poignant right now. The young people volunteering and serving now are doing so with the knowledge we are at war and there is a good chance they will see combat.  They are the very best of their generation, bar none. Yet the voters have given them a CIC who is not fit to command them.

But way beyond that, America is well down the path to Socialism that is steadily eroding the freedom bought and paid for with the sacrifice of so many who are far better Americans than those who are letting this happen.

    Robert

This may be the last Veterans day where we can honor veterans Next year at this time with the Obamacrats running the nation, it may be spit on a veterans grave day.

The Flag fly it while we are free to do so.

God Bless our Veterans.  I feel your pain Robert.  It’s hard for me to imagine a country full of citizens greedy enough to demand entitlements rather than work for their personal wealth.  It truly doesn’t say much for us as a nation.

I hope and pray that from this point forward we start to move back to the principles and values this nation was founded on.

And once again, God Bless our veterans and our troops.  I went to the grocery store today where an old guy was asking people who came into the store to buy an item for gift bags for the troops.  He had a layout of acceptable items from candy bars to shave cream and razors.  It was a great way to recognize the day and I got a good feeling for giving.

    More Than Words…

    More Than Words, indeed…
I didn’t want to include these comments in my Veterans Day—Thank you! post because the two shouldn’t be combined or mentioned in the same breath or vane.
John Murtha, served his country as an US Marine. Than…..
