Lieberman Keeps Seat And The Left Is Riled
McCain backer Lieberman keeps committee chair
Lieberman’s colleagues in the Democratic caucus voted 42-13 Tuesday to approve a resolution condemning statements made by Lieberman during the campaign but allowing him to keep the Homeland Security Committee gavel.
Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said he had been very angry by Lieberman’s actions but that “we’re looking forward, we’re not looking back.”
Added Reid: “This was not a time for retribution, it was a time for moving forward on the problems of this country.”
It was a secret ballot, not like Card Check, so I can’t tell you who the 13 were that voted to oust him from his chairmanship on the Homeland Security Committee. Here are some of the better reactions:
Lieberman: Suck On That, Liberals!
I hope this puts to rest the notion that this is all some master stroke of kumbayah, of keeping your friends close and your enemies closer.
This is about telling you that you mean nothing. That democracy is a nice word, but it should never threaten the entitlement of the most exclusive club in the world.
No matter what Joe Lieberman does, the people who are protecting him hate you much more than they hate him.
Not acceptable
Um, what idiot would think that taking away a subcommittee from Lieberman would be seen as a “stinging rebuke”? In whose DC-Beltway-addled mind is that even remotely punishment?
Let Lieberman keep that subcommittee. No one gives a shit about it. The only thing that matters, the only thing that Lieberman wants, and the only thing we don’t want him to have — is the chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee.
If this is the “starting point”, and given the Senate Democrats’ history of capitulations, expect Lieberman to come out of that meeting as majority leader.
Capitol Punishment — It’s a rare double hanging in the Capitol this morning.

I think I’ll be most happy if the left and the right are both mad at Obama. Since the right already is,the left might as well join them and it looks as if some of them already have.Just saw the guy from dailykos.com on complaining about Lieberman keeping his committee. He’s an unhappy camper. I don’t care if he is or not.Join the club.I don’t think many people in this country are very happy these days.We have a lot of work to do.The dow is in free fall again. Where is my foam brick to throw at my TV.
