Whet Moser, an editor at alternata]ive weekly Chicago Reader wants to know why The Huffington Post’s newly formed Chicago-focused venture is stealing their copyrighted concert reviews and reprinting them in whole in order to get search engine traffic.
GateHouse Media Inc. has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the parent company of The Boston Globe, claiming the newspaper’s new community Web sites use online material from GateHouse without permission.
In a complaint filed Monday in the U.S. District Court in Boston against The New York Times Co., GateHouse claims Boston.com has violated copyright and trademark laws by “reproducing, displaying and distributing” its newspaper headlines and original material published on its “Wicked Local” Web sites.
GateHouse alleges that Boston.com circumvented electronic security measures intended to prevent it from scraping GateHouse’s online content. The company is is seeking an injunction against Boston.com.
New York Times Co. spokeswoman Catherine Mathis dismissed GateHouse Media’s claims as “without merit.”
