Under executive orders issued by Obama last week, the CIA still has authority to carry out what are known as renditions, or the secret abductions and transfers of prisoners to countries that cooperate with the U.S.
Current and former U.S. intelligence officials said the rendition program is poised to play an expanded role because it is the main remaining mechanism — aside from Predator missile strikes — for taking suspected terrorists off the street.
Okay, maybe he isn’t as big of an idiot as I thought he was..don’t get me wrong, he is an idiot, just not as big of one as previously thought!
Isn’t the rendition tool what made us unpopular to the youth around the world?
That’s what struck me most about this article. NObama is keeping one of the very things which made us unpopular in the WOT. I still don’t feel any safer but it’s a start in the right direction for me.
This also tends to confirm the notion that the order to close Gitmo was pure politics; throwing a bone to the ACLU and the nutroots that have made Gitmo the symbol of their hatred for Bush. They’ll just have to move the “detainees” (yes, poor farmers and commonfolk caught up in the crossfire of the Bush war…) somewhere else only this time the ACLU etc. won’t have the access to them that they did in the virtual fishbowl Gitmo became.
It’s ok to have a comment.
