UPDATE: Great news: Obama fumbled Brown visit because he’s in over his head
Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been “overwhelmed” by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.
British officials, meanwhile, admit that the White House and US State Department staff were utterly bemused by complaints that the Prime Minister should have been granted full-blown press conference and a formal dinner, as has been customary. They concede that Obama aides seemed unfamiliar with the expectations that surround a major visit by a British prime minister. …
Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president’s surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.
A well-connected Washington figure, who is close to members of Mr Obama’s inner circle, expressed concern that Mr Obama had failed so far to “even fake an interest in foreign policy”. …
The American source said: “Obama is overwhelmed. There is a zero sum tension between his ability to attend to the economic issues and his ability to be a proactive sculptor of the national security agenda.
“That was the gamble these guys made at the front end of this presidency and I think they’re finding it a hard thing to do everything.”
Ed:
I’m not sure which is worse. At least if he meant to snub Brown, it would suggest a certain competence at this brand of diplomacy. Instead, we’re told that the Obama White House and their staff are just a bunch of incompetents who got in over their heads.
Which is, of course, the point we made continuously over the last two years.

This was supposed to be funny? No!

Clinton presented Lavrov with a gift-wrapped red button, which said “Reset” in English and “Peregruzka” in Russian. The problem was, “peregruzka” doesn’t mean reset. It means overcharged, or overloaded.
And Lavrov called her out on it.
“We worked hard to get the right Russian word. Do you think we got it?” Clinton asked Lavrov.
“You got it wrong,” Lavrov said. “This says ‘peregruzka,’ which means overcharged.”
I was a bit taken aback considering that this is the second time that we have given out inappropriate gifts, so therefore I am forced to use this button:

Hey Pam and friends. Glad to see you are still going strong.
So what do you think .. Rush/Palin 2012?
Why would Rush run in 2012? He is an entertainer that has this administration scared. Newsflash, even the hardcore Rush haters are disgusted with the administration..They have no idea what they are doing, so let’s throw Rush out there..He happens to be a successful person and his ratings have only gone up so keep on bringing his name up!
I would bet that even in a drug stupor, Rush could have made sure that the gifts we gave were appropriate..
It wasn’t that long ago I was hearing liberals constantly whining about how Bush ‘destroyed our image in the world.’ So does this mean that NObama, their new messiah, is also destroying our image in the world. He has already pissed off the European Union with his protectionist policies. Can we now assume that with this latest snub our alliance with Britian will be compromised?
I know you smoke Pam and no offense to you when I say this but wouldn’t the NObama have more energy and FOCUS if he just quit smoking? Not to mention how he must smell. That can be offensive to a non smoker.
I never get offended when my smoking is attacked!
Off subject- Where do you think he smokes? I don’t smoke inside period! Even if I am in a business that allows it. I would hope he would have the same courtesy!
Thanks Pam. Quitting is hard, and I know that from experience. My best friend quit two years ago and sometimes she aches for a smoke. I’ve been clean more than a decade so I don’t get the same feeling. She was also a much heavier smoker. My sympathies are with those who want to quit but find it hard.
NObama could do alot of good if he really were to quit and set an example for younger generations.
My libbie friends once chided me on Bush riding his bike and running. I challenged them to the fact that having a healthy President was alot better than an unhealthy one. The job is stressful enough and exercise is a great equalizer.
I sure as heck hope he isn’t stinking up the White House. If he smokes outside someone could catch him with a telephoto lens camera. I wonder if the tabloids would protect his image. Good for you for not smoking inside. Neither my friend nor I ever did either.
So what if he is caught smoking? Wasn’t that one of the most important topics discussed by the alphabet networks? Will he quit? When will he quit? What is the best way for the POTUS to quit smoking? Yes, that is the most important task facing the man! NOT!
I bet he is smoking like a chimney since he is overwhelmed by the job!!
Doesn’t surprise me if he is overhwhelmed by the job. Being POTUS is a big step up from “Community Organizer”. I recall how after he won he had that look that screamed out “oh shit, I won, what do I do now?”
Funny. The job is stressful and he does seem overwhelmed by it. I get the impression he will be a one term only president.
What bothers me most about his being overwhelmed is that it will be seen by our enemies. In spite of what the lefties try to say we are in real danger – not just economically but culturally as well. Even our national security is compromised. With a man in office who is obviously not qualified it leaves the door open for change, only it’s not the kind of change we can believe in.
I didn’t think anyone would be able to knock Carter off his pedestal!
Ha ha! Funny, just last night I was telling someone we are really ready now for “change”! We really need change! More than ever!
Actually, this Country seriously needs change, asafp! Carter took at least a year to earn the No Confidence vote. This guy has done it in six weeks! Gotta be a record!
Did you get my email Robert? I sent it to your g account and can’t wait to see what you do with it
Hi Pam I did this morning and checked it out. Looks pretty funny!
