Can You Say 2016 Olympics: Illinois snags largest chunk of fed stimulus work

Illinois snags chunk of fed stimulus work | Crain’s Chicago Business.

Illinois is getting a jump on the federal stimulus program, claiming more than 12% of the road and bridge projects approved so far by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Why do the citizen’s of Illinois pay road tolls?  Better yet, why are the citizens of the other 49 states paying for work that is to be covered by toll booth collections?

Could it have anything to do with the 2016 Olympics?

The president has done two bid promotion videos, the second debuting for a visiting international Olympic panel before its first meeting with Chicago 2016 officials Saturday morning.

On Monday, Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett told the International Olympic Committee’s evaluation commission that the federal government plans logistical support unprecedented for a U.S. Olympics.

In addition, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made a video presentation assuring “streamlined, expedited” entry procedures for accredited Olympic visitors. That issue has caused friction for foreign athletes and sports officials because of tightened U.S. security since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

According to Chicago 2016 President Lori Healey, Jarrett told the evaluation commission that if Chicago is chosen, the White House would establish a special office to provide “top-level support for the Games.” Jarrett, a former Chicago 2016 board member, would head the office.

Healey said the federal pledge would be binding on a new administration in the “unforeseen circumstance” Obama is not re-elected.

$8 million radar to nowhere.  When you are finished with that, take a look at this: Spain’s green jobs boondoggle

“Spain’s experience (cited by President Obama as a model) reveals with high confidence, by two different methods, that the U.S. should expect a loss of at least 2.2 jobs on average, or about 9 jobs lost for every 4 created, to which we have to add those jobs that non-subsidized investments with the same resources would have created,” wrote Calzada in his report: Study of the Effects on Employment of Public Aid to Renewable Energy Sources.

Hmm. I guess it could have something to do with the next Olympics. I don’t see why they shouldn’t get any improvements and whatnot in preparation for the said event. But if it’s mostly coming from the stimulus (especially if the money isn’t originally alloted for that purpose) then that would be unfair.

    Imee-

First they need to be awarded the games..that hasn’t been decided, but that hasn’t stopped Daley from spending money like they do have them. His wish list for stimulus money was kept secret so the press wouldn’t ask him questions..that is in the archives. Let’s forget about the Olympics for just one moment, and look at how much was sent to the state…a state that charges tolls that should have already paid for this work…12%? Take a look at some of the things chicago has done at 3:00 am.

Touché. Completely removing the aspect of the next Olympics, I get your point that Daley has been spending like there’s no tomorrow, and that 12% of the stimulus is quite hefty considering the generous toll money they have already collected.
