The seeming acceptance the GOP has shown for Huntsman’s move is in stark contrast to the eviscerating criticism Republicans directed at Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter when he switched parties and became a Democrat in April.

Gee, let’s see about that statement.  Huntsman is not switching parties, but is going to accept an ambassadorship under a Democratic POTUS.  He was the youngest U.S. ambassador at the time when he was named envoy to Singapore in 1992.  This is a political appointment.  This has no effect on the votes in the Senate.

Specter had voting rights as an elected Republican.  He switched political parties, giving the Democrats a larger edge in voting to push their socialistic agenda through.
