UPDATED:Maddow Lies Her Way Through Her Meet The Press Debut…UPDATE 1:All aboard the Astroturf bus…UPDATE 2: SEIU Watch: Obama to rouse Purple Army in special conference call!

By: Pam On: Aug/16/09 - 23 Comments

The best part about it is the fact that this tool thinks Rachel’s debut went well on Meet The Press

When Armey said he took no responsibility “whatsoever” for the virulent protests against President Obama and compared it to MoveOn.org running an ad comparing President Bush to Hitler, Maddow pointed out that that never actually happened. Later she elaborated, pointing out that major conservative groups had speakers going around the country comparing Obama to Hitler, Pol Pot and Stalin and asking supporters to put the fear of God in their congresspeople. When Armey said that he denounced violence, Maddow pointed out that his organization, FreedomWorks, was in a coalition whose website was promoting the violent fight at a Tampa town hall as a good thing.

Via Freedom Works, here is the ad that MoveOn made

As for the threats? Again, another lie

Washington, DC — Today, FreedomWorks released an apology to leftist political organizations, including MoveOn.org, the Democratic National Committee, the AFL-CIO, and ACORN for our apparent ignorance of the fine art of political discourse.

FreedomWorks’ August Recess Call to Action encouraged grassroots citizens to attend Congressional town hall meetings and listening sessions.  We asked everyone to voice their opinions and communicate their opposition to the President’s proposed hostile takeover of the American health care system.  Apparently, the very act of showing up and having an opinion is, in effect, to act like a “thug.”  Opposing President Obama’s policy agenda on health care is, in and of itself, unacceptable, and has no place in our democracy.  Bottom line: it’s “disgusting,” according to our friends on the left.

We didn’t know this.  Evidently, we also didn’t know best practices in a respectful, dignified policy debate, but our leftist friends were kind enough to “take FreedomWorks to school”, so to speak.

Specifically, “school” included phone call blitzes from MoveOn.org and the AFL-CIO that jammed FreedomWorks phone lines and filled up staff voice mail boxes.  Callers’ consistently used profanity, vulgarity, ever-popular references to “Nazis” and “brown-shirters,” racial slurs targeting an African-American staffer, and even veiled threats of violence and bodily harm.

Now we know how an intelligent political debate unfolds.  Thank You!

FreedomWorks would like to share some of the more interesting examples of this brand of debate, graciously communicated to staff via voice mail by some of the more learned members of the thoughtful left.

Please click on the links below (WARNING:  If you, like the uninformed members of FreedomWorks, do not have an appropriately sophisticated and  “progressive” view of political discourse, you may find the content of these recordings extremely offensive. They use profanity, crude sexual innuendo, racist remarks, and very, very bad English):

Call 1: “You’re a total d**khead. Bye-bye, you little a**hole.”

Call 2: “You all suffer from the same f**king problem: you didn’t get laid enough when you were younger because you’re 5’ 3”. … Girls never paid any attention to you… You’re a little f**king dweeb who f**king didn’t get any p**** his whole f**king life… You’re a little f**king piece of shit and I would f**king step on  your fu**king head quicker than you could shake a stick out, if I had the chance… You’re the f**king minority.”

Call 3: We are using tactics like Hitler to disrupt democracy. “If I have to pick up a weapon…then I will.”

Call 4: Heavy breather.

Call 5: “F**king buddies’ wives…”

Call 6: Very creepy: “Stop disrupting my democracy with Nazi, Brownshirt tactics…you immoral bast****.”

Call 7: Threat to respond violently to town hall attendees. “I hope this backfires on that piece of s*** Dick Armey.”

Call 8: “I hope you have a hard time sleeping at night.”

Call 9: “You are almost as bad as the communists… You’re from out of the country, obviously.”

Call 10: “Your Brownshirt tactics are unacceptable, un-American.”

Where did the lie start:

I do recall is this:

White House to Dems on town halls: “If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard”

Top White House aides gave Senate Democrats a recess battle plan on Thursday, arming the lawmakers with tips for avoiding disastrous town hall meetings while showing them polling on popular aspects of the reform effort…

They showed video clips of the confrontational town halls that have dominated the media coverage, and told senators to do more prep work than usual for their public meetings by making sure their own supporters turn out, senators and aides said.

And they screened TV ads and reviewed the various campaigns by critics of the Democratic plan.

“If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard,” Messina said, according to an official who attended the meeting…

“They are just helping us understand the fringe that is trying to mess up our meetings,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).

Just a reminder of what network Rachel works for:

UPDATE 1: All aboard the Astroturf bus!

Chris Gautz of the Jackson (MI) Citizen Patriot reports that the SEIU and Organizing For America chartered buses from nearly 200 miles away to plant Obamacare supporters at a town hall meeting held by Democrat Rep. Mark Schauer.

All aboard the Astroturf bus

UPDATE 2: SEIU Watch: Obama to rouse Purple Army in special conference call

I’m getting on a call with President Obama tomorrow and I want you to join me.

The President is holding a live health care reform strategy meeting on Thursday at 2:30 pm EST. He’ll lay out our strategy and message going forward, and he’ll answer questions from SEIU activists and supporters like you.

Click here to RSVP and submit a question for President Obama: http://my.barackobama.com/forum

It’s impossible for me to tell you in an email how proud I am of the work SEIU members and health care activists are doing to advance real health reform. Everywhere Congress goes, we’re there to meet them. It’s driving our opponents crazy; I think that means we’re doing something right.

Join tomorrow’s call with the President and keep the momentum going: http://my.barackobama.com/forum

In a few weeks, Congress goes back to Washington and the final push for a health reform bill will be underway. Now, more than ever, we’ve got to be on the same page to create real change in the health care system for working families across the country.

I hope you’ll join the President and me tomorrow as we discuss how we’re going to get it done: http://my.barackobama.com/forum

Thanks,
Andy Stern

The Purple Shirts are loading the buses to get to a congressional town hall near you.

And never forget Andy Stern’s organizing philosophy:

Asked about his organizing philosophy, Andy Stern summed it up this way: “[W]e prefer to use the power of persuasion, but if that doesn’t work we use the persuasion of power.”

With Madcow or any other lefty, demand documented proof. Lefties run under their rock when the light of publicity is shone on their lies.

Why don’t you all demand that Tom Coburn provide a citation for his allegations against Medicare on yesterday’s “Meet the Press”?  At least Maddow tries to cite her sources.  Coburn and Armey tossed out a bunch of stuff without once citing their evidence.  Oh, that’s right, Republicans are ALLOWED to use rumors and lies.  Sore losers.

Here’s what FeedomWorks FORGOT to say about the ad shown above:

MediaMatters clarifies that two “Hitler” videos were submitted to a MoveOn(dot)org advertisement contest. MoveOn NEVER endorsed the efforts nor promoted them; the clips simply appeared on MoveOn’s contest website. When news spread about their mere existence, a controversy erupted, and the liberal netroots group quickly pulled the ads, APOLOGIZED for their inclusion, and denounced the use of Nazi imagery.

Cath, you lies and misrepresentations are noted. Media Matters is the Lefts lying propaganda site. You weren’t around when posters on this site posted many, many examples of Bush=Hitler by the left.

Go scare some children with your lies. People here are veterans at detecting and debunking your crapola.

    PCD -
We aren’t talking about other posters on the site or previous posts, or “lefties” or “righties” or scaring children, or “veterans” debunking stuff.  We’re talking about the post above and my response to the post regarding Dick Armey’s deception and Tom Coburn’s potential deception (on Medicare) on yesterday’s “Meet the Press.”

The topic is “Maddow Lies Her Way Through Her Meet the Press Debut.”  But the post presents nothing in the way of proof.  So, you can claim all you want about debunking and crapola, but that’s all you have — claims and threats.  The facts remain.

Cath, you have absolutely nothing, except WEASEL WORDS! Potential?? Let’s say you are a potential child rapist because you are a Democrat Shill. Furthermore, since you are following a script provided by a Soros funded, Obama aligned group, that you are a paid shill.

You offer no proof, just lies of Media Matters and MoveOn.org.

And you offer no proof at all, except as a clear example of the closed minds and name-calling that seem to characterize some on the “right.”   It’s really a sad commentary on the America we’re both supposed to know and love.  Maybe most conservatives and libertarians are not that way.  Hopefully someone else at this site will engage in a more productive and civil exchange.  I came to learn more about the right, and all you’ve done is confirm my stereotypes.  Lost opportunity.

    Libby Basher -

Agree. I did that myself; Bush behaving more like Hitler than Obama does, IMO.  And I know some on the right feel just the opposite.  It’s not the nicest thing to do and it IS calling the kettle black, but that was my sincere feeling during Bush 43’s benighted administration.  Could not help it.  Just look at the mess that George W, Bush made of our country, e.g.,  his casual attitude toward the U.S. Constitution, failure to protect us from 9/11/01 (ignoring several warnings), a financial meltdown that he left for others to clean up, much as he left messes for others to clean up throughout his pre-White House days.   I do believe he was manipulated by Cheney during his first term and probably isn’t inherently evil, just not overly bright.  Thus, not as bad as Hitler.  Then look closely at Cheney’s secrecy and his attempt to consolidate power in the Executive Branch.  Closer to Hitler, perhaps.  Also, observe how much BOTH Repubs and Dems kowtow to the big corporations and corporate lobbyists and then tell me there isn’t something fascistic about the government.  I’m hoping for improvement, or at least more transparency, under Obama.  So far, he’s about 50/50 — not entirely as I’d hoped, but seems to be working FOR the country instead of against its citizens.

Wow Cath, you are not only a political lightweight, you are an intellectually dishonest one at that.
Casual attitude?  Where is it that you can find where the courts ruled he violated the COTUS?
What were the several warnings that GWB had to go on.  Did he have the who, what, where, when to warn the country?  No.  Did we have major failures in our intelligence gathering?  Yes…
A financial meltdown that he tried to stop through regulation, but was rebuffed by the democrats..He left because his term was up.   I am not sure if he is aware of it, but the current POTUS was a U.S. Senator prior to taking office.  As a Senator, he had the ability to write legislation or even vote on legislation that could have prevented, or at the very least, lessened the impact of the crisis.  Instead he voted no in 2005, but wrote a letter in 2007..
What is it that George Bush asked for, that the Democrats didn’t vote to give him?  What legislation did they stop him on?  Everything he asked for, the Democrats voted for..The only thing he didn’t get was regulation on Wall St…Republican’s were racists for asking for oversight on Fannie and Freddie.
Lobbyists like  the ones for the auto industry..Those kind of big corporations?

It’s too bad that all the folks here can do is name call instead of addressing the topic of the thread or engage in discussion.  Afraid much?

Before I answer any of those questions, please provide the evidence of Rachel Maddow’s lies on Meet the Press, which are alleged at the start of the post with little or no proof.

Aw heck, I’ll do a “gimme” on Dubya’s forewarnings about 9/11:  Consult Ron
Suskind’s book “The One Percent Solution.”   In his foreword, Suskind points out that the CIA sent a messenger to Bush in August 2001 at his Crawford Ranch with enough evidence to warn that Bin Laden was determined to strike in the U.S.  According to Suskind, Bush told the CIA messenger “All right, you’ve covered your ass.”  When the CIA messenger left, Bush went back to fishing and prepping a speech on stem cell research.  This is only one example of warnings ignored.

Afraid of what?  You have been provided the links..can’t follow them?  If you don’t like how we debate, leave..
I’ll skip the book but go to the memo itself..Dated August 6th, 2001.  There is nothing in that memo that would lead anyone to shut the airlines down, which would have been the only way to prevent the airline attacks on September 11..Remember, they set bombs off inside the WTC…That was the first terrorist attack they committed on our soil..remember that? 1993?  We had 70 investigations going by the time of the attack on 9/11/01.  The POTUS had been meeting daily with CIA…

Note:  I was speaking about Republicans’ lies (e.g., Armey, Coburn), not the folks at this site.  I’ve already visited the links provided above (e.g., to Huffington Post; to the video that was submitted to MoveOn’s contest – which they removed and for which they apologized, but which FreedomWorks/Armey tried falsely to claim as proof of MoveOn comparing Bush/Hitler; to Phil’s AFP video that doesn’t present anything new about MSNBC or other sites and spouts the usual stuff about Soros’ backing of Center for American Progress).  Nothing new. And note that Phil doesn’t offer any proof that Maddow lies, just an angry lecture about how he resents her attacks on front groups like AFP.  As a hardworking American myself, I appreciate when anyone calls out hypocrisy.  Seems the right likes to dish it out, but can’t take it.

As for 1993: The Administration in power at that time (Clinton) got the perpetrators of that heinous WTC bombing. They didn’t have to invade another country under false pretenses and waste thousands of American lives to do so.  I seriously doubt that Bush paid much attention to the daily CIA briefings.  Otherwise, why the nasty brush-off to the CIA messenger cited in Suskind’s book?  And why no increased security at the airports?  It’s impossible to say that anyone could have prevented 9/11, but the Bush Administration didn’t pay sufficient attention to the warnings.  Rice and Powell blamed “systemic failure,” but terrorism was not high on Bush’s agenda during his first months in office, despite warnings.

Visit this link.  If nothing else, read the last paragraph.

But we digress… The title of this thread is “Maddow Lies Her Way Through Meet The Press Debut.”  Misleading.  It’s OK to be angry about the way she reports or the way she challenged Dick Armey, but lies?  You haven’t made the case.  Catchy headline, though.

No Cath, not reading a Jason Leopld link..I am still waiting for that Rove indictment he promised us…
No, Clinton didn’t start a war did he? In fact he never reacted when we attacked repeatedly in the 90’s, and in fact had the chance to get bin laden but let him go…Let’s take a look at Clinton’s last report to Congress:
Al Qaeda Absent from Final Clinton Papers

The final policy paper on national security that President Clinton submitted to Congress — 45,000 words long — makes no mention of al Qaeda and refers to Osama bin Laden by name just four times.
The scarce references to bin Laden and his terror network undercut claims by former White House terrorism analyst Richard A. Clarke that the Clinton administration considered al Qaeda an “urgent” threat, while President Bush’s national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, “ignored” it.
The Clinton document, titled “A National Security Strategy for a Global Age,” is dated December 2000 and is the final official assessment of national security policy and strategy by the Clinton team. The document is publicly available, though no U.S. media outlets have examined it in the context of Mr. Clarke’s testimony and new book.

Clinton’s 45,000 word document makes no mention of Al Qaeda. It makes scarce references to the psychopath, himself – OBL.  OBL declared war on us in 1998….

Richard Clarke testified that the Clinton Administration considered terrorism the ‘highest priority’ – and yet the mastermind behind such terror acts as the 1993 WTC bombing, the USS Cole, the embassies in Tanzania and others made up about .03% of the document. All of those terror incidents happened under Clinton’s watch – – and yet his final document on the topic of terrorism barely even mentions the OBL terror network.

There were 70 investigations going on as of 9/11, and again, the only way to have stopped 9/11 was to just shut down the airlines so we would never have a hijacking…

Jason Leopold is another revisionist, Monday-Morning Quarterback who conveniently ignores much in order to try to sell his  nonsense:
“Simply put, terrorism was not a priority for the Bush administration during the first nine months of 2001.”
Yes, that’s right, Jason, but not for the reasons you are trying to imply. Do you recall, Jason, how we were sliding into recession, how the  dot-com bubble burst? Do you remember, Jason, how Klinton inherited a rising economy with cheap, plentiful oil and left a falling economy and a growing energy crisis. You see, Jason, it was time to pay the Bill for the Klinton party.
Bush had his hands full with the recession. The previous administration had mostly ignored terrorism for years (except for making it more difficult to fight it, as in jJamie Gorelic’s “wall”), so it is not difficult to understand why the Bush admin was more focused on the economy.
But as a wanker, Jason, you probably can’t see any of that. The combination of your Liberal information filter, plus poisoning from chronic kool-aid overconsumption, has left you unable to discern reality.

    Fred:
Did you mean Rachel Maddow or me?  Or both of us?

Again, it appears that name-calling is the MO for so many here.  Not worth my time or energy.

However, several of you continued to confirm stereotypes of the “right.”  I visit sites from “the other side” now and then to see if there’s any middle ground for discussion or reconciliation, or at least civil debate.  And to try to find out what folks outside my  liberal/moderate world are thinking.  This thread at  “Right Voices” proved disappointing.

Finally, getting back to the topic of this thread:  The evidence presented still fails to live up to the headline.  No proof that Maddow lied.  Frankly, she did a darned good job in her debut, especially against a smirking, deceptive Dick Armey — who couldn’t even make eye contact.  However, you can continue to call names and preserve your delusions.

You have proved nothing. You cite lies as truth, just like any other Marxist. You make no sense because you are the final arbitrer of all arguments, and you just pronounce your victories without building the case with TRUE facts.

Go read Rosie O’Donnell and her Trooofer friends. You’d be more comfortable there.

Cath, I am reasonable  certain Jason Leopold does not visit this site. I posted that to debunk your citation. But I still think I wasted it as you will not acknowledge he is an unfit reference.
And as for my statement, it makes sense in context. Terrorism had been on the back burner for years. With  no new activity (untiul 9/11)  Bush was confronted with an immediate crisis; the economy, while trying to pay the tab for the Klinton party.
    Does that help your understanding?
