The Golden State isn’t worth it
Our high-benefit/high-tax model no longer works, especially compared with low-tax states like Texas.

California and Texas are not perfect representatives of the alternative deals, but they come close. Overall, the Census Bureau’s latest data show that state and local government expenditures for all purposes in 2005-06 were 46.8% higher in California than in Texas: $10,070 per person compared with $6,858. Only three states and the District of Columbia saw higher per capita government outlays than California, while those expenditures in Texas were lower than in all but seven states. California ranked 10th in overall taxes levied by state and local governments, on a per capita basis, while Texas, one of only seven states with no individual income tax, was 38th.
I would love to hear what you have to say!

As a Kalifornia native, I have had a front row seat to watch the decline of this once-great state. Here’s the problem in a nutshell: The increasing State expenditures have, for the most part, not gone for things that improve the quality of life for residents, or the quality of public works infrastructure. They have gone to support hundreds of cancerous State bureacracies in the form of Commissions and Boards loaded with cronies and friends of the politicians, each making $100k/yr or more for doing nothing. Most aren’t even vaguely qualified to serve on those positions. Then they sit around creating regulations to justify their existence, regulations that drive up the cost of everything here. Then there are the welfare and other freebies. It was bad enough that Kalifornia became a magnet for the welfare cases from all over. But the illegals have added a massive burden to an already overloaded system. The there’s crime ands the prisons. A huge and expanding prison population; prisoners get better health care than most of the population. As many as 20 to 24% of the State prison population is illegals, who can’t be deported safely because they would be back here under another identity in just days, ready to do it all over again. Meanwhile the taxes are higher than ever, in a State already among the highest in taxes. The infrastructure crumbles while much of the money that is spent is squandered on boondoggles like a new Bay Bridge in SF that has no more capacity than the one it will replace, stupid Bond issues that sound and feel good but mostly just enrich the proponents who spread money around Sacramento to get them put on the ballot. So the idiots vote for them then wonder why we’re in this mess. These are many of the same idiots who vote in a Governor to fix the mess then don’t support him when he tries to do what he promised, what they voted him in for, like Schwarzenneger. Then they vote for the same corrupt, airheaded asswipes in the State Legislature who just propagate this mess, then they wonder why we have problems.
Not concindentally, the demise of our once-great State, and the rise of moronicity closely tracks the great influx of Liberals, bums, degenerates, and illegals that has exploded since the mid 1960’s.
Nice the LA Slimes is just starting to figure out the obvious, but the fact is they have been a part of the problem for years.
