We’ve all been annoyed by bad driving, and the use of cell phones while driving has become a focal point for this. But do we need more laws? I said no when the idea of banning cell phone use was first proposed, and I still say so. There were already enough laws against bad driving.
Now this study reports the laws haven’t made a difference. Never mind, the Nobama Administration says we need a federal law banning cell phone use. Yet another usurpation of State’s authority, going into an area that is no business of the Federal Gov’t, something that is not wanted, and by the way, is not needed anyway! Now the Conservative will likely say “See, I told you so. No law was needed”. The Liberal will likely say “Then we need more laws!”.
In the same newspaper I read about this study today, I saw an article titled “Scolding Falls on Deaf Ears” about how Nobama plans to overcome the “partisan logjam” to enact his agenda. How offensive on multiple levels: Scolding? If anyone needs “scolding’ it is Nobama and his merry band of corrupt and/or Incompetent Buffoons. “partisan logjam”? Oh you mean not everybody has joined the religion, there is opposition, and instead of modifying the agenda, the opposition needs to be crushed, ignored, or circumvented? What about the fact that a majority (and growing) of the American people oppose Nobama’s agenda? Don’t they count for something, even a mention?
The arrogance, the double-standards, the hypocrisy of this bunch is almost beyond belief. I hope Democrites are utterly and totally crushed in the Nov. election, if for nothing else just to teach them a well-deserved lesson. And let’s hope the Republican party has learned its lesson, one it seems to forget periodically.
We are or did enact a ban on texting while driving..Mi was going to ban the use of cell phones for kids between 16 and 18 which is basically a probationary period of driving…
I’m amazed this could be found on CNN, tv and website.
All this when truck related fatalities are actually down. Department of Transportation has in recent weeks placed an emphasis on stopping motorists from texting while driving. Yet, the car makers continue to introduce options that allow the sending and receiving of e-mail.
The thing is, texting isn’t a primary offense. I’m thinking if you have a commercial driver license and you’re stopped in traffic, you could be required to hand over your phone/driving logs, etc., to check if the driver has been texting.
It really looks like Obama’s administration is just trying create some kind of win for him, but as usual, overlooks the obvious.
Last fall I was driving through town and found myself behind a Range Rover and noticed the most amazing thing considering Michigan’s child passensger laws (car seat until age 4, rear booster seat until height exceeds 4′ 9″, and under age 16, buckled up in the back seat). The mother was driving at 45 mph, talking away on her cell phone blissfully unaware one of her daughters, who looked to be 5 or 6, was hanging out of the window waving and yelling at the high school students walking home from school. She was totally oblivious to other drivers honking and pointing at her kid in the back seat, and never once stopped her conversation to straighten out the kid.
They’ll never do anything to give teeth to the laws that already exist. Might upset too many voters.
They don’t care about existing laws, they always want to to do more, to get more control over everything. Condition the masses to being totally controlled. That’s the game.
I heard on the radio today that violence against law enforcement officers is a growing trend. This is predictable; I predicted it more than 20 years ago when I quit working in LE fulltime because I could see things changing.
