Ariz. Requires Citizenship Proof to Vote

Arizona has become the first state to require proof of citizenship when registering to vote, a measure that supporters say is intended to prevent voter fraud.

The law went into effect Tuesday after being approved by voters in November. It requires that people provide proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate, when registering to vote and show specified forms of identification when casting a ballot at a polling place.

A civil-rights group and Democratic legislators recently had urged the Department of Justice to reject the law. They argued the changes will erect barriers that will hinder minorities’ participation in elections and hamper grassroots voter registration drives.

I want one of you liberals out there to explain to me how requiring proof of citizen ship is going to hamper grassroots registration drives? And while you’re at it - please explain how it will hinder minority participation?

Requiring proof of citizenship in order to vote seems to me to be a no-brainer. Seems to me that it won’t cause any such hinderings at all. If you’re a citizen, prove it - - minority, or not . . prove it an you’re in.

The only folks who will be hampered and hindered will be those who have difficulty proving citizenship, right?

One of my relatives works for the civil rights group which believes a parking ticket should be enough evidence of citizenship. There is no discussion, no form of communication regarding the subject of proof of citizenship and entitlements, there is no reasoning, just a stare and the feeling that one is considered a idiot for not agreeing with the idea behind those entitlements and the objections against them.Members of these civil rights groups are a rare species, a conglomerate of intellectuals with true fanatical socialist agendas.

Hey, is it just me, or would it not be easier for minorities to prove they are citizens. I am sure if you legally came over here you would have NEWER, more accesable paper work… That is just me though.
