Obama May Levy $15 Billion Tax on Oil Company Profit

The plan would target profit from the biggest oil companies by taxing each barrel of oil costing more than $80, according to a fact sheet on the proposal. The tax would help pay for a $1,000 tax cut for working families, an expansion of the earned- income tax credit and assistance for people who can’t afford their energy bills.

As with every tax, someone pays for it, and it won’t be the company.. Why not cut the funding to Planned Parenthood? $336.7 million in taxpayer funds which added to their profit of $114.8 million and increased its total assets to $1.12 billion.

I know what you are thinking, you are going to tell me to do an accent wall only, right? I got the idea from this. I know that when working with such a color will be difficult, but I’m not joking, I am joking, okay I’m not joking. Oh shoot, did you follow the link to my inspiration for this and had trouble? “Huffpo revealed a disappearing story from the NY Sun that claimed the story was a “creative fiction.” Now the NY Sun story is gone. In its place, a story straight from Google.”

What are your thoughts? One wall or all four?

Hannity Goes After Planned Parenthood For Covering Up Statutory Rape

I have mentioned Planned Parenthood recently, both here and here, and today, Sean Hannity and and Ainsley Earhardt discussed those particular incidents, but added a new one, the Wallace family. Their 14 year old daughter was pressured into an abortion by her 21 year old soccer coach/boyfriend. The soccer coach paid for the abortion and pretended to be her father in order to make sure the abortion was performed. The Wallace family has filed suit against Planned Parenthood in the state of Ohio, which considers sex with a minor, even if consensual, to be rape. This case could force the books to be opened on Planned Parenthood. Ed has the video, be sure to watch it.

The Archbishop of Canterbury says the adoption of Islamic Sharia law in the UK seems “unavoidable”.

Really? It’s unavoidable?

Dr Rowan Williams told Radio 4’s World at One that the UK has to “face up to the fact” that some of its citizens do not relate to the British legal system.
Dr Williams argues that adopting some aspects of Sharia law would help maintain social cohesion…
He says Muslims should not have to choose between “the stark alternatives of cultural loyalty or state loyalty”.…
He stresses that “nobody in their right mind would want to see in this country the kind of inhumanity that’s sometimes been associated with the practice of the law in some Islamic states; states; the extreme punishments, the attitudes to women as well”…
“We don’t either want a situation where, because there’s no way of legally monitoring what communities do… people do what they like in private in such a way that that becomes another way of intensifying oppression inside a community.”

Putin:Will He Stay Or Will He Go

The United Russia party looks to have won the parliamentary election. Will Putin remain in office beyond his current term? It certainly looks that way:

Putin is constitutionally prohibited from running for a third consecutive term, but he clearly wants to stay in power. Many supporters have suggested his becoming a “national leader,” though what duties and powers that would entail are unclear.

“The vote affirmed the main idea: that Vladimir Putin is the national leader, that the people support his course, and this course will continue,” said party leader and parliament speaker Boris Gryzlov said after the exit polls were announced.

Putin has been an effective leader, for the most part. Why is it that no one else is able to continue where he left off. I see it as selling the country short. If in fact he has done more than they could have possibly expected, shouldn’t there be some cabinet members that could take the helm and carry on at the end of his term? Did he do this by himself? Did he ever really plan to step down? No, and no would be the correct answers.

     Saturday Morning Thoughts

Noel brings up a great point about Scott McClellan’s book:

Without peeking, do you think the now infamous excerpt from White House press secretary Scott McClellan’s not yet written book specifically referred to Valerie Plame Wilson, or anything to do with that scandal?

While you ponder, it is quite conceivable that this entire media frenzy is not only much ado about nothing, but an example of what happens when today’s so-called journalists see what they believe to be Republican blood in the water despite the presence of red dye #2.

As cleverly pointed out by Lee Hempfling Thursday (emphasis added): (follow the link guys and gals..hhere is another clue though

Do you see Valerie Plame Wilson’s name anywhere in this excerpt?

    No.

So, why were media outlets - in particular, MSNBC - so quick to conclude that this had anything to do with her?

Blair: “They have made their choice and leave us with only one to make - to be forced into retreat or to exhibit even greater determination and belief in standing up for our values than they do in standing up for their’s.”

H/T to Allahpundit for this link to Tony Blair’s speech, that he gave in New York City, last night:

Islamist extremism is similar to “rising fascism in the 1920s and 1930s”, Tony Blair said last night in his first major speech since leaving office…
He told the audience, which included New York governor Eliot Spitzer and mayor Michael Bloomberg, that Iran was the biggest exporter of the ideology, and that the Islamic republic was prepared to “back and finance terror” to support it…
“Analogies with the past are never properly accurate, and analogies especially with the rising fascism can be easily misleading but, in pure chronology, I sometimes wonder if we’re not in the 1920s or 1930s again…
He added: “There is a tendency even now, even in some of our own circles, to believe that they are as they are because we have provoked them and if we left them alone they would leave us alone.
“I fear this is mistaken. They have no intention of leaving us alone.
“They have made their choice and leave us with only one to make - to be forced into retreat or to exhibit even greater determination and belief in standing up for our values than they do in standing up for their’s.”

     PUTIN THREATENS USA

Russian leader Vladimir Putin met his Iranian counterpart Tuesday and implicitly warned the U.S. not to use a former Soviet republic to stage an attack on Iran. He also said nations shouldn’t pursue oil pipeline projects in the area if they weren’t backed by regional powers.

At a summit of the five nations that border the inland Caspian Sea, Putin said none of the nations’ territory should be used by any outside countries for use of military force against any nation in the region. It was a clear reference to long-standing rumors that the U.S. was planning to use Azerbaijan, a former Soviet republic, as a staging ground for any possible military action against Iran.

“We are saying that no Caspian nation should offer its territory to third powers for use of force or military aggression against any Caspian state,” Putin said.

    The New Anti-Semitism

Europe is reawakening its old demons, but today there is a difference. The old anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism have morphed into something more dangerous. Anti-Semitism today is officially sanctioned state ideology and is being turned into a mobilizing and organizing force to recruit thousands in a new crusade — the word is chosen deliberately — to eradicate Jewishness from the region whence it came and to weaken and undermine all the humanist values of rule of law, tolerance and respect for core rights such as free expression that Jews have fought for over time.
