About Those Foreclosure Statistics

“It didn’t make financial sense for me to keep paying a mortgage on a home that was basically owned by someone else.”

Former major league baseball player Jose Canseco…”said on Thursday he had lost his California mansion to foreclosure — one of the first celebrities to publicly admit being a statistic in the U.S. housing crisis,” the Associated Press said.

In comments to the TV show “Inside Edition,” Canseco says, “It didn’t make financial sense for me to keep paying a mortgage on a home that was basically owned by someone else.”

More from the Associated Press: “Canseco, 43, one of the most flamboyant U.S. baseball players until his retirement from the major leagues in 2001, told the celebrity TV show ‘Inside Edition’ that it did not make financial sense to keep his 7,300-square-foot home in the Los Angeles suburb of Encino. ‘Inside Edition’ said it had foreclosure documents showing Canseco owed a bank more than $2.5 million on the house.

An Invitation To My Linkfest Haven Deluxe Friends To Talk About Illegal Immigration

April 21, 2008 8:44 AM

Filed in: Daily Links, Illegal immigration

I am extending this invitation to you, my friends at Linkfest Haven Deluxe, in the hopes that you will join in this conversation on illegal immigration. It is my hope that we put the name calling aside and have an honest open debate about a very important issue that our nation faces. It is my wish that we put the proverbial sword down and take an honest look at the situation. Where are we, where do we need to go, how are we going to get there..

Thank-you!

Pam

PEGGY NOONAN: Over the Top
What the Democrats lost this week was the chance to paint the ‘08 campaign as a brilliant Napoleonic twinning of strategy and tactics that left history awed. What they have instead is a ticket to Verdun. Trench warfare, and the daily, wearying life of the soldier under siege. The mud, the cold, the dank water rotting the boots, all of it punctuated by mad cries of “Over the top,” bayonets fixed.

KIMBERLEY A. STRASSEL: Earmark Nation
Newly minted presidential nominee John McCain stepped into the Rose Garden this week to receive President Bush’s blessing. What the cameras didn’t catch were pork-addicted congressional Republicans blowing raspberries from their offices.

With all the talk about how Mr. McCain needs to unify his party, lost has been the question of whether some people will let him. Washington Republicans know he’s their best shot at retaining the White House. Yet many remain ambivalent about him — not because they question his conservatism, but out of resentment that he may get in the way of their earmarks.

I wanted to give you a list of some very interesting posts that I have read today. I’ll post excerpts, but please take the time to follow the links. If I missed one that you liked, link to it in the comments:

    Bryan: The Pentagon’s Muslim tug-of-war:

The fact that our agencies are so inept that they keep finding themselves linked to groups like the ISNA, and the fact that there seem to be apologists for those groups who also advocate taking a soft line on extremism within the agencies while purging those who advocate knowing more about these groups, all point to a dark fact: We’re screwed. If we can’t even take the most cursory look at Islamic doctrine or what Islamic groups that operate here in the US do with the millions of dollars they raise here every year, we can’t understand who is and isn’t an enemy and we therefore can’t win the war.

It’s Christmas Eve And I Have Much To Be Thankful For

    December 24, 2007 12:01 AM

Filed in: Daily Links, Gay Marriage, Site Stuff

I can not believe that it is Christmas 2007. As I look back on this year, I have much to be thankful for.

As much as I miss my Mother and wish that she could be with us this Christmas, I am thankful that she is finally at peace. Her struggle was long and painful, but never a complaint. I wish her everlasting peace. I am thankful for our friends and family that got us through her death. We asked that no flowers be sent, please find it in your heart to make a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. The flowers overfilled the funeral home, church and my father’s house, yet the donations far exceeded their costs. I am thankful that our Mother taught us the importance of “Finding cures. Saving children”, and I am thankful that her family and friends remembered this.

     Saturday Morning Thoughts

Noel brings up a great point about Scott McClellan’s book:

Without peeking, do you think the now infamous excerpt from White House press secretary Scott McClellan’s not yet written book specifically referred to Valerie Plame Wilson, or anything to do with that scandal?

While you ponder, it is quite conceivable that this entire media frenzy is not only much ado about nothing, but an example of what happens when today’s so-called journalists see what they believe to be Republican blood in the water despite the presence of red dye #2.

As cleverly pointed out by Lee Hempfling Thursday (emphasis added): (follow the link guys and gals..hhere is another clue though

Do you see Valerie Plame Wilson’s name anywhere in this excerpt?

    No.

So, why were media outlets - in particular, MSNBC - so quick to conclude that this had anything to do with her?

U.S. prosecutors: Illegal immigrant worked for FBI, CIA, stole info

    And that’s not all:

The sister-in-law of the indicted fugitive owner of the La Shish restaurant chain got sensitive jobs at the FBI and CIA, despite being an illegal immigrant, federal prosecutors said in court documents unsealed today in Detroit.
The woman, Nada Nadim Prouty, 37, of Vienna, Va., also tapped into a sensitive FBI computer to find out what federal investigators knew about her, La Shish restaurant owner Talal Chahine, and her sister, who is married to Chahine.
Prosecutors said she took an unknown quantity of classified information home with her. It’s unclear what happened, or what she did with the information, prosecutors said.
The information pertained to a federal investigation of Chahine and his possible involvement with Hizballah, which has been declared a terrorist organization by the U.S State Department…
Prouty hired an unemployed U.S. citizen to marry her in 1990, a year after she entered the country and overstayed her student visa.
