A lot of the difference, the change if you will, between Obama and Bush has much to do with the word humility.

George Bush is and was a humble man. Obama thinks the world counts on him and him alone to lead us. Bush went to church and prayed often. Obama puts out press releases about his supposed piety. The left sold a great bill of goods to the American people claiming that Bush, et al. were arrogant while insisting that Obama was a “man of the people.”

The 65th Anniversary of D-Day is fast approaching. Barack Obama will attend the events on June 6th as George Bush did in 2004 for the sixtieth memorial service. Here is the rub, as of now Obama’s State Department has asked (read demanded) the French government not allow tour guide services to operate that day. It is a big day for Normandy tourism. Yet, the king will not allow those not connected with government to enjoy the day. Obama is very important you know. This is an unprecedented request. I hope the French come to their senses and deny it.

Obama Sends Note to Chirac Pledging Friendship, Working Relationship..No Wonder Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez called Obama “a poor ignoramus” who “should read and study a little to understand reality.”

Just a major problem with this little note:

US President Barack Obama has indirectly praised former French president Jacques Chirac’s fierce opposition to the US-led invasion of Iraq, the online edition of the daily Le Figaro reported on Thursday.

In a letter described by Chirac as ‘very nice,’ Obama wrote, ‘I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world.’

The use of the word ‘peace’ was taken to be an indirect reference to Chirac’s stance against the US intervention in Iraq, which Obama had also opposed as senator.

No Pasaran has more on the bizarre letter to Chirac.

Barack Obama does not seem to know that in May 2007, French voters elected Nicolas Sarkozy to the French presidency, to succeed Jacques Chirac who had been president for twelve years.

No wonder Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez called Obama “a poor ignoramus” who “should read and study a little to understand reality.”

In other words, Sarkozy sees Obama in just the same light we do and there is no rose tint to it:

French President Nicolas Sarkozy is very critical of U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama’s positions on Iran, according to reports that have reached Israel’s government.

Sarkozy has made his criticisms only in closed forums in France. But according to a senior Israeli government source, the reports reaching Israel indicate that Sarkozy views the Democratic candidate’s stance on Iran as “utterly immature” and comprised of “formulations empty of all content.”

Obama visited Paris in July, and the Iranian issue was at the heart of his meeting with Sarkozy. At a joint press conference afterward, Obama urged Iran to accept the West’s proposal on its nuclear program, saying that Iran was creating a serious situation that endangered both Israel and the West.Â According to the reports reaching Israel, Sarkozy told Obama at that meeting that if the new American president elected in November changed his country’s policy toward Iran, that would be “very problematic.”

In fact, Sarkozy believes that Obama would wind up being more unilateral than George Bush in his foreign policy.Â When a French politician uses the word “arrogant” as an accusation, that means something.Â Apparently, their brief meeting during the Obama World Tour did not set Sarkozy’s mind at ease.Â He saw something that makes him extremely uneasy with Obama in charge of American diplomacy.

Formulations empty of all content.Â Sounds familiar, no?Â It has the ring of Hope and Change.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy:

“I will not have any more contact with the Syrians until… we have received proof of Syria’s intention to let Lebanon designate a president of consensus,” said Sarkozy at a press conference in Cairo after meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) and Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy (D-R.I.) visiting Syria on Sunday:

“The time is right now, and prospects are very good,” Specter told reporters Sunday on his 16th visit to Syria since 1984. “The parties will continue talks through intermediaries, and it’s my hope and expectation at some point, if preliminary progress has been made, the U.S. government would be ready too.”

Who the hell gave Specter the authority to make such a statement. That is not within the realm of his legislative authority!

Here is Partick Kennedy on the jailed dissidents:

“The president said that they would be released,” Kennedy said. He said Assad identified “Akram Bunni, Walid Bunni, Jaber Shufi, Ali Abdullah, Fidaa Horani, Mohammad Yasser Aiti and Ahmad Tohmeh … [and] assured me personally that they were [to be] released.”

Well there you go! Kennedy has Assad’s word, therefore they shall be released! Did he release them while you were there? No, he didn’t did he?

Ed Morrissey has a must read, but here is a bit of what he said:

The time is right? The prospects are good? Syria has conducted a series of assassinations in Lebanon over the past two years, killing politicians who oppose its rule over what it sees as a vassal state. The UN has demanded cooperation from Assad and his government, which has not been forthcoming, over the first assassination of Rafik Hariri.

On top of that, Syria has re-armed Hezbollah in the south in defiance of UN resolutions and a laughably inept peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon. They have interfered in Lebanon’s political processes and kept its government in a stalemate. Even the French have stopped talking with Syria because of its intransigence. What prospects look good, other than enhanced concessions from Israel and the US that will only encourage further Syrian machinations?

Bryan:

Specter would give the Golan Heights away if he could. It seems almost strange to say this, but the French seem to have the better approach to Syria these days than we do: Isolate them.

Officials are not sure what the motive is at this time, but here is an interesting tidbit:

The same building also houses a foundation that does research on the Holocaust and a law firm that President Nicolas Sarkozy founded with two other people.

Officials stressed, however, that the motive for the attack was unclear.

Mayor Bertrand Delanoe said the bombed lawyer’s office was on the same floor – the fourth – as the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah, created in 2000 with an endowment from recovered funds that were confiscated from French Jews during World War II. It supports research and education about the Holocaust and Jewish culture.

Sarkozy’s former law office was opened in 1987, according to the company’s Web site. The practice changed its name from Arnaud Claude-Nicolas Sarkozy after Sarkozy’s election in May, and is now called Arnaud Claude and Associates.

While you ponder, it is quite conceivable that this entire media frenzy is not only much ado about nothing, but an example of what happens when today’s so-called journalists see what they believe to be Republican blood in the water despite the presence of red dye #2.

So, why were media outlets – in particular, MSNBC – so quick to conclude that this had anything to do with her?

Bryan points out: Red Cross training Palestinian “militant groups” in the finer points of international law

I wonder if they covered the fact that, as they have operated since their beginning, the Palestinian “militant” groups are in and of themselves violations of international law?
They don’t wear uniforms. They target civilians and launch unguided rockets at civilian targets including schools. They hide among their own civilians. They use civilian and religious sites to stage attacks and launch their rockets. These are all violations of international law in one way or another.

Remember when Howard Dean was the biggest problem for the Democratic party? The Irritable Elephant made the following observation:

One has to wonder that, for a party that has built its platform on an anti-war set of planks, what on earth will the Democrats do if ” gasp ” the situation calms down and we can, as Pelosi and Harry Reid have called for BRING THE TROOPS HOME.
Be careful what you wish for. Instead of America retreating from the Middle East in disgrace, a defeated superpower, we may just “BRING THE TROOPS HOME” having remade some of the DNA of the Middle East – and shown that President Bush may have been right after all.

Remember when Chirac was the President of France and he waved the white flag at the mere hint of civil unrest from the workers? Captain Ed tells you about Sarkozy’s Triumph:

Even the core of the old movement — the universities — has begun to crumble. Most students have other aspirations beyond perpetual petulance. They have belatedly discovered that the French business establishment completely mistrusts them, and considers university graduates as wholly unprepared for employment. They have no prospects after college under the current system, and they want that system changed. Students have little enthusiasm for using their universities as another front for the trade unions; they want a real education instead.

Sarkozy didn’t win his election in a vacuum. The French people want significant change, even if they balk somewhat at the bill. The unionists completely ignored this rather obvious shift in the wind and tried to roll back the calendar 40 years. They exposed themselves as out-of-touch anachronisms of that earlier age. They want to continue to play as radicals, while France wants to get back to business.

Lebanon faces another crisis as Pro-Syrian President Emile Lahoud left office Friday, with no replacement.
Rick calls it “COUNTDOWN TO CHAOS” While Redstate summarizes it this way:

the President of Lebanon’s out, the Prime Minister doesn’t recognize the legitimacy of the way he left and the Iranian regime, Syrian regime, and fellow terrorist group Hezbollah don’t recognize the legitimacy of the Prime Minister’s disapproval. Meanwhile, the Lebanese military would very much not like to be involved, please – and while both sides aren’t reaching for their guns, the situation is not what you’d call relaxed. On the bright side, the French still* have their priorities straight on this….
…which should mean that the quote-unquote “international community” might actually refrain this time from peeing in the soup because they like the flavor better that way. Hey, every little bit helps.

Sarkozy: America ‘built the greatest nation in the world’

Seldom has an American politician as unabashedly proud of this nation’s accomplishments.

Sarkozy does not want to just be friends ” he wants to emulate us.

Sarkozy singlehandedly disproved the foolish notion by the Democratic Party that Bush made the world hate us.

Remember, Sarkozy is not saying these things to be nice. He is speaking to his nation. He knew going in that every single word he said is being reported and analyzed back home.

The French are his audience.
